On July 10, 1776, after news of the Declaration of Independence reached New York City, a crowd gathered to hear a reading of the document and was inspired to tear down the equestrian statue of George III. During this time period, British war ships began gathering outside of New York City. This view is a fictitious rendering of the location and the statue.
